How To Remove Antivirus Plus?
Antivirus Plus is yet another malware masquerading as an antivirus protection software. This malware purports to be an antivirus but the real intention is to con users to pay for their full version in order to get rid of bogus viruses. This malware will create fake alerts of virus attacks and also alerts of other malwares but it takes the game up a notch by pretending that it is a antivirus software that is endorsed by Microsoft.
This malware infects most computers in the usual way most malwares penetrates most systems. They can cause auto-install by infecting websites that you visit or they can generate fake virus popups from websites so that you will install their so-called antivirus in order to get rid of the fake viruses. They also bundle the malware into existing software that you download via torrent sites so that it get installed together when you install illegal software. The method is not new but it does get a lot of distribution for the virus fairly quickly as most people are not savvy enough to recognize that the Antivirus Plus is not an authentic antivirus software.
Getting the malware installed onto your system is only the start of the problem. It will keep popping up fake alerts and messages of viruses or other malwares in your system and asking you to install the full version of the antivirus plus software. This malware will flood your system with a lot of pop-ups and will make it impossible to surf the web. However no matter what, you should not hand over your credit card details to buy the full version of the antivirus plus. Upon sending over your credit card details, you will not receive any software but worse still, your credit card will be used fraudulently without your permission. This will be disastrous and you will lose the amount of money charged to you for buying the “full” antivirus plus and any other shopping that the antivirus plus creators deem fit. Hopefully you will have realized that you had been scammed before they sell your credit card information to more crooks.
Antivirus Plus Removal
To get rid of antivirus plus permanently, you need to do a few basic steps. You will need to kill a couple of processes namely AntivirusPlus.exe, AntivirusPlus.grn, rundll32.exe and dop.exe. You will need to click CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons at the same time and then go the process tab on the task manager. Stop all the above mentioned processes and if even there are more than one of the above processes available, you should stop all instances.
Next you will need to go the registry to delete all the registry values that were inputs by antivirus plus. Look out for the below registry values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Run “AntivirusPlus”
This must be deleted and you should do a search for “antivirusplus” before moving on to the next step. Then you will need to delete a couple of files before you can remove antivirus plus. These files are as follows: AntivirusPlus.exe, AntivirusPlus.grn, rundll32.exe and dop.exe.
After deleting all these files, you should rescanned your system one more time and you should be fine.
